Julie landed her first on-air job during her freshman year at SC (1998). She started out as the host of “Platfourm” on USC’s Trojan Vision. It was a current event debate show modeled after Bill Maher’s “Politically Incorrect.”
Soon after, she also began reporting for USC’s Annenberg TV News. Julie was a reporter and producer for the award-winning newscast… but it may have been her stint as Weather Anchor that folks remember most. At the time, Julie hadn’t even considered a career in weather. ATVN’s faculty advisors, Serena & Willa, must have had amazing insight.
After a semester abroad in London where she interned for the BBC (2001), Julie returned for her senior year / first semester of grad school. She was the guinea pig (as they called her) for Annenberg’s first ever dual bachelor/master degree. Julie began her graduate work during her senior year of undergrad. This was not an easy task living in a house full of sorority girls. That’s right, Julie was Vice President of her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta.
Julie would have graduated with her BA in 2002, were it not for the dual degree program. Her last year at SC was spent commuting from Hermosa Beach, reporting for ATVN and working on her documentary "Spoiled Children in London."
When Julie finally walked across the stage to receive both of her degrees in 2003, she was also honored as "Graduate Student of the Year."
Below is the resume tape that landed Julie her first “real” job in Fresno. You can also check out her first investigative piece, "Steroids and Student Athletes."
