From Sacramento to Sierra Leone
2009 Telly Award Winner - PBS

While planning their vacation in 2008, Julie and her husband were compelled to do something with a purpose.  They decided to visit their sponsor child in Sierra Leone.

The country was in the process of recovering from a decade-long war made famous in the film “Blood Diamond”.  However, by the time the film aired, the war had long been over and the people of this once beautiful country were struggling with a whole new set of tragic circumstances.

Ranked dead last on the UN’s human development index, Julie’s hope was to shed light on the beauty and recovery of Sierra Leone.  With a borrowed camcorder and lap top editor, she embarked on her first attempt at long-form Multi-Media / Video Journalism.

The 6-part series later aired as a 30 minute program on PBS and won two Telly Awards.
