Award Winning Long-Form and Alternative Journalism

Compelled to shed light on stories of international significance and make them relevant to a local TV audience, Julie often finds herself behind the camera in an effort to tell stories that might not otherwise be told.  In the age of small news budgets, that usually translates to shooting and editing these “passion pieces” after work and while on vacation.

In 2008 she traveled to Sierra Leone where she shot, edited and produced a
documentary about Blood Diamonds.  It aired on PBS and won two Telly Awards.

Always looking for a unique story to tell, in 2010 Julie spent her vacation chaperoning 25 local high school students as they traveled throughout India.  She shot, edited and produced
"Outsourced: Silicon Valley Students in India" which aired on KPIX.  Outsourced was recently named Best Feature Story by the Associated Press and won the RTNDA Award for Best Video Journalist/Multimedia Journalist.

Julie also won the first-ever “Multi-Media Emmy Award” for an interactive piece she produced about
Kenya’s violent 2007 elections. With a master's degree in Online Journalism, Julie enjoys turning compelling broadcast stories into interactive online experiences.
