Outsourced: Silicon Valley Students in India
2011 Associated Press Award - Best Feature Story

Always looking for a unique story to tell, Julie jumped at the chance to chaperone a group of local High School students on an immersion trip to India.

In the age of small news budgets, this was yet another passion piece produced while on “vacation”.  Equipped with her station issued MMJ gear, (minus the tri-pod - long story) Julie shot, edited and produced the two part series.

“Outsourced: Silicon Valley Students in India” examines the connections between the Bay Area and what is now known as Silicon Valley East.  It also provides a glimpse into India’s growing wealth gap through the eyes of 25 teenagers. From touring Cisco Systems and call centers to spending time in slums with street children, the private school students provide a unique perspective on the dichotomy that is India.

**Note: Julie shot the entire piece with the exception of the stand-up’s.  Without a tri-pod, she had to rely on her “non-video journalist” husband for those.

The series was named "Best Light Feature" by the Associated Press in 2011.
